Lee Roy Selmon's existence is one of football scholarships, family involvement as well as community involvement. First, his relatives. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. They raised nine children on a Eufala farm. The second football was that his father was the only of three brothers who played for Oklahoma. Three of them were All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey & Lee Roy started for one season in 1973. Lee Roy is the winner of both Outland Awards and Lombardi Awards. He was the top lineman for all of the nation. The three years he was a starter Oklahoma was 32-1-1 and won two national championships. In 1975, he received his third scholarship, and was recognized as the National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon earned a degree as a teacher. Lee Roy was involved in volunteering for ten hours per week while he attended college. After graduating Lee Roy moved to Tampa which is where he played for nine years playing for the Buccaneers. Three times he was named an All-Pro. He began his business career. In 1988, he was an Account Relations officer at Tampa's First Florida Bank. He was also involved with these organisations: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. No wonder that In 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce named him as one of the country's 10 outstanding young men. Lee Roy stood 6-2 in the height department and weighed 256 lbs when he was a student athlete. He was captain of the team in 1975. In 1993, he became the associate director of the University of South Florida. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988. He was also named to the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. The Selmons' parents Lucious as well as Mary Selmon, Jr. received the Distinguished American Award in 1989 from the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation. Henry Bellmon, the governor of Oklahoma gave it to them.
